VIIE – Global Methodologies for Global Challenges

The past few years have witnessed a number of Indian students taking this ‘global’ leap forward under the banner of Vidyalankar, attending the initial part of the course at its futuristic campus in Wadala and then moving on abroad for the final phase and becoming proud recipients of a graduation degree from an International university.

In the year 1999, Vidyalankar cemented its commitment towards the same cause by establishing ‘Vidyalankar Institute of Technology’, an Engineering Degree College approved by AICTE and affiliated to the University of Mumbai. Vidyalankar School of Information Technology (VSIT), started under the auspices of Vidyalankar Dyanpeeth, has been instrumental in building rewarding careers for its students who are placed globally. The courses with full four academic years with 2 years at Vidyalankar and 2 years abroad, are a perfect example of cultural mix in education.

In an era of competition, as is today, everyone is striving to be the best. The lure to attain international education is always a predominant thought at the back of the mind of most students, but the focus so far has mostly been to study abroad after graduation. However, such facilities are now available even at undergraduate levels where institutes like VIIE collaborate with universities across the world to make foreign degrees available to students. It goes without saying that a student needs to be doubly sure of the credentials of both the Institute in India and abroad.

These collaborations began a decade ago and have gained in strength and popularity with scores of students opting for the same for better prospects. For Engineering aspirants there are multiple opportunities available namely Penn State University, Rutgers University and California State University in the USA, Aston University in the UK, and University of Fraser Valley, British Columbia, Canada.
The various formalities involved in sending students abroad can be daunting, to say the least. However, since Vidyalankar takes care from academics to visa preparation, the process becomes absolutely easy for students and parents. Getting to grips with a different education system is another challenge that students going overseas for higher education tend to face. Keeping this in mind, Vidyalankar grooms the candidates in a special way by simulating the education system of these countries during the initial two years at Vidyalankar.

Keeping in mind the legacy of providing quality education, VIIE strives to provide to students the Bachelor’s degree that would be accepted internationally. This alliance will facilitate the most meaningful educational experience in Engineering & Management to Indian students interested in experiencing the global education and culture. The programs provide a unique opportunity to Indian students to acquire the skills necessary to meet the challenges of tomorrow’s globally competitive world.

Vidyalankar’s sprawling campus of 11 acres promises to be a boon for students pursuing professional careers. Lectures are conducted by faculty from international universities that VIIE invites to train the students. This enables the students to get acquainted with the teaching style, assignment pattern and evaluation method that is practiced abroad.

The students also undertake the ‘Bridging Module’ to make up for the gap between the two curriculums. These Bridging Modules are jointly delivered by faculty of VIIE and the foreign universities.

Training for TOEFL/ IELTS experienced faculty at Vidyalankar trains the candidates for the necessary English exams. Online Mock-Tests are conducted for practice, and students trained by these faculties have scored as high as 118/120 in TOEFL.
Finally, Vidyalankar also arranges a three day workshop conducted by Dale Carnegie (USA) on Interpersonal Skills or ‘soft skills’ development.

Getting a Master’s Degree from US is usually followed path by Engineers but getting a Bachelor’s degree from a top-ranked US school is a rare feat. Vidyalankar has made this prospect within the reach of a large community of students by tying up with the PennState University. The four-year program course is divided into the first two years at Vidyalankar followed by two years at PennState University with an option to major in Information Technology (Integrated and applications) or Information Systems (Design and Development). A great combination of IT and Management Studies, the degree conferred at the end of the course, B.S. (1ST) is in high demand internationally. At the end of the day a graduate degree in the States is viewed with respect all across the world. And the fact that it is happening at half the cost is even more heartening to Indian students.

A nice fusion of best of both the worlds VIIE’s collaborations draws from the myriad of experiences combining sound theoretical learning with hands-on practices. For example, students that crossover from VIIE to Penn State University are often sought after as Information System Analysts or Security Administrators across a large array of key industrial sectors like finance, defense, consulting, manufacturing, healthcare, pharmaceuticals, and environmental research.

With globalization providing a level playing field, there is a need for a common platform of internationally accepted education that enriches and enhances working in a global environment and VIIE does just that.
